50,000 Words

I completely forgot NaNoWriMo was a thing until yesterday.

For those that don't know, National Novel Writing Month - or NaNoWriMo - takes place during the entire month of November.  It's a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.  Technically, it doesn't even have to be a novel - it can be 50,000 words of poetry, memoir, fanfiction, short stories...basically, the thing is to write 50,000 words of something in 30 days.

I've been doing it since 2015.  I didn't finish last year because I was finishing up undergrad, but I have all the other years.  What I usually do is have a main project I work on, but have some side projects that I include in my word count.

And I'm going to end up using almost none of it.

Most of the work is stuff I'm just not interested in working on anymore, or want to work on from a different angle, but it still feels like an accomplishment to write that much in a month even if you don't end up doing anything with it.  You learned things, you grew as a writer, and you hopefully had some fun and maybe even felt some good pressure.

This year, though, I'm hoping is different.

While being a stay-at-home daughter with a part-time job, I figure I might as well try to fill the time with some projects, and this is one of them.  I cannot work 9-to-5's forever.  I'll scream.  So I might as well try to write something worth sharing and getting paid for.  Hopefully, what I plan to work on this NaNoWriMo could be just that.  There's also a NaPoWriMo in the spring that I plan to do the same with, so that I can have original fiction and poetry in the span of about six months that will hopefully become...something.

But if not, that's okay, too.

Anyways, if that sounds like something you're interested in doing, do it!  It's never too early to start planning.  We can do some sprints together. :)
