We saw this coming, and it still sucks
Roe v. Wade was just overturned.
This is scary. Even though the overwhelming majority of Americans want to protect the right to choose and to medical privacy, half of the states are now ready to take away those rights. The former president unethically packed the courts with judges who perjured themselves in regards to protecting Roe as precedent, the result of decades of white Christian Nationalism taking root and working to erase the line between church and state. This decision will result not just in an immediate sense of anger and sadness, but will have lifelong effects on women and others who give birth. It will hurt them economically, emotionally, and physically. These people don't care that a world without legal abortions is just a world without safe abortions - abortions will still happen. People will die because of botched, back-alley procedures. Will die because the clump of cells inside of them is of more value to these assholes than the person themselves, the one living and breathing right now. They don't care if a woman was raped or if there was incest involved - these Republicans and white Christian Nationalists only care about power and control, and this is just another way of asserting it that they have been working on for decades.
This is devastating.
At this time, we need to make sure we are serving each other, and in November, we need to vote out as many Republicans as we can because there is no saving the Republican Party. It is a party of fascism and control and lies and projection and death.
We saw this coming - it just sucks to see. Hopefully, we can take our anger into the midterms so that we can regain majorities in both chambers and codify the right to a safe and legal abortion early next year. Until then, let's compile resources, look out for each other, and stay angry. Making our voices heard in various ways is what's going to save us.
Stay safe out there. <3
